| Compass Garden Competition 2009 Over thirty gardens were entered into the first Compass Garden Competition . Sponsored by Chapel Garden Centre this popular event was judged over two days in the beginning of August. Nicky Stevenson owner of Chapel Garden Centre, was given the hard task of judging the gardens which were placed into four categories of, Best Summer Colour, Best Garden Design, Best Small Space and Best Fruit and Vegetable Plot. Winners received a eight inch engraved mantelpiece trophy and a fifty pound National Garden Voucher. A highly commended category in each group also carried the prize of a twenty five pound National Garden Voucher. Glorious sunshine accompanied the judge as she inspected the gardens. A wide abundance of imagination, colour and variety were on display, from the small plots where every available space was put to good use. To the more larger gardens where landscaping and use of colour was paramount. The winners in each categories were presented with their trophy's and National Garden Vouchers by Nicky Stevenson. The competition was open to all villages in the "Compass" catchment and it was a happy coincidence that the prize winners were from each of the villages. We hope to run another Garden themed competition next year so keep looking in the Compass for further details. List of Winners Class 1.
